The Ranch Riding horse should reflect the versatility, attitude and movement of a working horse. The horse’s performance should simulate a horse outside the confines of an arena and that of a working ranch horse.
Forward working speed, control and light contact are evaluated as well as overall manners while performing the maneuver requirements and the quality of movement. Our Ranch Riding gatherings are designed to teach the requirements and skills that you and your horse will need in order to compete in the exciting new discipline of Ranch Riding.
You’ll learn how to teach your horses how to effortlessly shift gears up and down at all gates while displaying forward and natural movement. Resistance in your horse will be addressed, giving you a soft feel in the bridle, allowing you to demonstrate that willing and focused look that is so important. We will also teach you how to negotiate the log and gate obstacles at all speeds and show you how to eliminate penalties.
This is a discipline that is fun and rewarding for horses and riders. Use it as another class to compete in with your current horse, as a way to cross train for added exposure, or simply the chance to learn something new. Or maybe you’ll get hooked and want to make Ranch Riding your focus. You’ll be intrigued with everything your horses will be able to accomplish just by designing a program that gets you playing in the fastest growing and largest class at the horse show.
